A live study of the Hotel TN Resort Complex in Mamallapuram, analyzing a government-run beach resort designed for domestic tourism and family stays along the East Coast Road in Tamil Nadu.
The project is a comprehensive live study of the TTDC (Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation) resort complex located on a 41-acre site on ECR, Mamallapuram, 60 km from Chennai. The resort is a budget-mid category, government-run beach property with 74-75 rooms across multiple categories including Standard Double, Deluxe, Super Deluxe, Family, Premium/Sea-facing, and Suite rooms. The design philosophy emphasizes low-rise development respecting the coastline, natural ventilation and daylight, Tamil Nadu coastal vernacular architecture, openness and sea-view orientation. The horizontally spread resort features multiple blocks arranged parallel/perpendicular to the sea to maximize sea views for guest rooms.
Room categories range from Standard Suite (215-230 sq.ft / 20-22 sq.m) to Deluxe Suite (260-280 sq.ft / 24-26 sq.m) to Presidential Suite (300-330 sq.ft / 28-30 sq.m). Moderate room sizes average 22-28 sqm depending on category. Ceiling heights follow TTDC standards: 10 feet (3.05 m) for common rooms, 11 feet (3.35 m) for older blocks with sloping tile roof, and 9 feet (2.75 m) for renovated AC rooms. Functional interiors with simple wooden and modular furniture. Zoning includes Public Zone (lobby, restaurant, banquet/conference hall), Semi-Private Zone (guest accommodation blocks), and Private/Service Zone (BOH areas, kitchens, laundry, staff rest areas). Separate guest, service, and staff circulation paths with semi-open corridors for ventilation.
