Project idea

This Thesis Proposes to Revitalize Public Spaces and uses architecture as a medium to complete the urban form and restore collective memory. This is achieved through reconfiguration of everyday, play, and event Scapes.

Project description

Edges of Pete traces the evolution of a historic Bengaluru precinct from its marshy origins in the 1500s through its densification during the 1900s city expansion, culminating in the loss of Badami House — a significant heritage stone building and public node central to the Kannada film industry. The project responds to this erasure by restoring collective memory and reclaiming the public realm through two interlinked interventions: anchoring the site of Badami House as a multi-use institutional and cultural space that reimagines its civic and cinematic legacy within the dense urban fabric; and a series of sculptural installations strategically placed at nodes along Pete's edge, creating playful, safe, and flexible shared spaces for children and communities. Together, these moves revive the memory of vibrant, tree-lined, walkable streets and civic gathering spaces while introducing new layers of public life — kiosks, pause areas, and social nodes — that enhance pedestrian movement and reimagine the precinct's edge as a continuous, inclusive, and living public spine.

Technical information

The structure uses readily available materials such as steel, concrete, and glass. Its contemporary fort-wall-like form creates a strong edge and serves as a visual landmark within the dense urban fabric.
