Project idea

Revitalizing the abandoned aquarium tower in Batroun, Lebanon, which was once envisioned as Lebanon's first window into the marine world but remains a silent manara suspended between interrupted ambition and unrealized communication.

Project description

The project addresses the abandoned aquarium tower that was once envisioned as Lebanon's first window into the marine world. It remains a silent manara, suspended between interrupted ambition and unrealized communication. The concept explores the theme of 'Where Silence Becomes Signal,' transforming the neglected structure into a revitalized architectural landmark that reconnects with its marine and cultural context.

Technical information

The project utilizes a reinforced concrete structural system with shear walls and a central core for stability, combined with a lightweight grid shell roof supported by tree columns to achieve large, open spans and fluid architectural forms. The façade consists of GFRC panels and Low-E double glazing, providing durability, energy efficiency, and flexibility for complex geometries. Interior materials include polished concrete, wood panels, and acoustic finishes, while sustainable features such as solar panels, natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting, and green roofs enhance environmental performance and support the site's ecological regeneration.
