Project idea

The Angklung Hotel is a cultural hospitality project inspired by the Angklung, a traditional bamboo musical instrument widely recognized in Southeast Asia. Located in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, the hotel aims to provide guests with a unique experience that combines cultural heritage, modern comfort, and sustainable design. The project translates the values of the Angklung harmony, rhythm, cooperation, and unity into architectural and interior design elements.

The design incorporates bamboo-inspired forms, natural materials, warm tones, and repetitive patterns that reflect the structure and rhythm of the instrument. Key spaces such as the lobby, entertainment lounge, and music studio encourage interaction, relaxation, and cultural engagement. Guests are given opportunities to experience traditional music through interactive displays and musical activities, creating a memorable and educational stay.

The main goal of the project is to celebrate and preserve Southeast Asian cultural identity while offering high-quality hospitality services. The project also promotes sustainability by utilizing environmentally conscious materials and biophilic design principles. By integrating cultural storytelling with contemporary hotel facilities, the Angklung Hotel creates a distinctive destination that appeals to both local and international visitors. Ultimately, the project seeks to strengthen cultural appreciation, enhance tourism experiences, and establish a meaningful connection between tradition and modern living.

Project description

The Angklung Hotel project focuses on developing a culturally inspired hospitality environment that integrates traditional Southeast Asian identity with contemporary hotel design. The scope of the project includes the planning and design of key hotel facilities such as the lobby, reception area, guest rooms, entertainment lounge, music studio, office, circulation spaces, and supporting amenities. Each space is designed to reflect the characteristics of the Angklung through the use of bamboo-inspired forms, natural materials, rhythmic patterns, and warm color palettes.

The project accommodates different user groups by providing a variety of room types, including single, double, and deluxe family rooms. Public areas are designed to encourage interaction, relaxation, and cultural engagement. The entertainment lounge and music studio serve as unique features where guests can experience traditional musical instruments and participate in cultural activities.

In addition to aesthetic considerations, the project addresses functionality, accessibility, safety, and environmental sustainability. Building services such as centralized HVAC systems are incorporated to ensure indoor comfort and efficient operation. Sustainable design strategies, including the use of renewable materials and biophilic elements, are also emphasized.

Overall, the project solution aims to create a memorable hospitality experience that celebrates cultural heritage while meeting modern standards of comfort, convenience, and guest satisfaction, contributing to the tourism appeal of Kuala Lumpur.

Technical information

The Angklung Hotel is designed as a three-storey hospitality facility that combines cultural expression with modern building technology. The project utilizes a reinforced concrete structural system to provide strength, stability, and compliance with local building regulations. Bamboo-inspired elements are incorporated as decorative features, wall treatments, ceiling panels, screens, and furniture to reflect the project's cultural concept while ensuring durability and ease of maintenance.

The interior design employs natural materials such as engineered bamboo, timber finishes, rattan, stone surfaces, and textured fabrics to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Acoustic wall panels and bamboo ceiling installations are used within the music studio to improve sound quality and reduce noise transmission. Guest rooms are equipped with private bathrooms, standard hotel furnishings, and energy-efficient lighting systems.

A centralized HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system distributes conditioned air throughout the building, ensuring thermal comfort, humidity control, and adequate indoor air quality. LED lighting fixtures are installed to reduce energy consumption and operational costs. Fire safety measures include smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signage, and fire-resistant materials in accordance with hospitality safety requirements.

The building is designed with accessibility considerations, including lifts, clear circulation paths, and barrier-free access to public spaces. These technical specifications support functionality, safety, sustainability, and guest comfort while reinforcing the Angklung-inspired design identity.
