This design proposal, developed within the course Small-Scale Spaces, focuses on creating an autonomous dwelling with a social purpose: temporary housing for teachers at various locations across Greece. The difficulty teachers face in settling in remote or otherwise inaccessible areas, combined with their constant relocation, served as the starting point for the creation of a space incorporating industrial elements, designed to be easily disassembled and relocated wherever deemed necessary.
This project has the potential to be deployed wherever needed across Greece in order to provide temporary accommodation for educators, forming small residential communities that support their settlement and integration into local areas. The proposal consists of a single, multifunctional living space in which every component has been carefully optimized to accommodate work, storage, daily living, and overall functionality. The interior incorporates foldable desks, shelving systems, and integrated storage solutions, allowing the limited space to adapt efficiently to the diverse needs of its occupants while maintaining comfort and flexibility.
The unit’s transformative and adaptable character responds to real-life needs, establishing its own distinct identity through autonomy and self-sufficiency. Designed to be easily assembled, disassembled, and relocated, it offers a flexible housing solution capable of adapting to different geographical and social contexts while maintaining its functionality and spatial quality.

Photovoltaic panels, integrated battery storage, and a water tank provide heating, electricity, and water supply, enabling the dwelling to operate independently. Externally, Corten steel—also known as weathering steel—defines the building’s shell, giving it a distinctive architectural expression while offering durability, low maintenance requirements, and the potential for reuse.
