Project idea

TENANG is a sustainable wellness hospitality retreat located in the heart of Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur — a sanctuary of calm deliberately placed within one of the city's most energetic urban districts. The project responds to a growing need: the modern city-dweller's hunger for genuine rest, disconnection, and restoration. Inspired by the Malay word for calm, TENANG is guided by the concept of Movement Through Nature — the idea that architecture can choreograph a journey from urban intensity toward inner stillness. Through biophilic design, organic spatial forms, flowing timber structures, and wellness-focused programming, TENANG creates a hospitality environment that prioritises the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of every guest.

Project description

TENANG reimagines contemporary hospitality through a wellness-oriented spatial strategy centred on sustainability, comfort, and human restoration. The design is organised around a central organic circulation spine that guides visitors through a seamless gradient of experience — from active social spaces at arrival, through immersive wellness facilities, to deeply private accommodation zones at the retreat's innermost core. Layered timber elements define the primary architectural language, generating visual rhythm, spatial warmth, and continuity throughout the journey. Wellness facilities include a reading lounge, sauna room, jacuzzi retreat, private cinema, fitness area, and thoughtfully designed accommodation rooms. Integrated indoor greenery, natural material textures, passive daylighting, and ambient lighting reinforce the biophilic atmosphere at every turn. CLV Glasstech floor-to-ceiling glazing and skylight systems connect interior spaces visually to nature while optimising natural light penetration and thermal comfort. Together, these elements create a holistic hospitality experience — one that nurtures relaxation, mindfulness, and meaningful human connection within the urban context of Kuala Lumpur.
