Continuum of Knowledge is a experiential learning space designed at the Martand Sun Temple, Kashmir. The project aims to reconnect younger generations with the region’s forgotten legacy of wisdom, learning and cultural harmony. Inspired by the concept of cultural memory and collective healing, it transforms architecture into a journey through Kashmir’s past, present, and future, promoting peace, understanding, and continuity of knowledge.
The project is conceived as an experiential learning environment that guides visitors through four narrative stages: Paradise Kashmir, Loss of Emotional Ecosystem, Hypervigilance and Loss of Trust, and Collective Recovery. The program includes an Archaeology Zone, Astronomy Zone, History Library, Science and Technology Center, Exhibition Spaces, Learning Galleries, Amphitheater, and Public Landscapes. Connected through a continuous circulation path and landscape roof, the project bridges heritage and innovation while encouraging education, reflection, and cultural exchange.
The building is integrated into the natural terrain surrounding the Martand Sun Temple and features a walkable landscape roof that blends architecture with the site. Construction utilizes locally sourced stone, steel, timber and glass to create a dialogue between ancient heritage and contemporary learning spaces. Passive design strategies, natural daylighting, controlled solar orientation, landscape integration, and sustainable water management systems enhance environmental performance while reinforcing the project's connection to nature and knowledge.
