Design of a funeral home (house of mourning) set in a mountainous landscape.
The project is a bachelor's thesis for a funeral home (Dom smútku). The building features a simple gabled form with white rendered walls and a covered colonnade with timber columns, situated in a dramatic mountainous setting. The architectural language is minimalist, referencing traditional vernacular forms while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic appropriate for its ceremonial purpose.
Buildings are founded on reinforced concrete strip foundations below frost depth, connected by reinforced concrete base structures. The load-bearing system consists of reinforced concrete walls insulated with mineral wool, while below-ground sections are protected with XPS insulation.
The buildings are covered by insulated pitched gable roofs finished with white ceramic tiles and equipped with snow guards. The ceremonial hall includes a reinforced concrete ceiling slab, while the technical building features a suspended ceiling system.
