The design of RATU is inspired by the Malay idiom “bulan di pagar bintang”, where the moon
represents women as a source of light, wisdom, and leadership, while the stars symbolize
the surrounding community that protects, supports, and uplifts them. This poetic metaphor
becomes the foundation of the architectural language, shaping the form, spatial organization,
and material expression of the building. Located in the vibrant heart of Bukit Bintang, RATU
is envisioned as a glowing constellation within the city, a place where empowerment, culture,
and community come together in harmony.
The architecture expresses empowerment as a layered journey that unfolds across four
levels. At the heart of the building is the central atrium known as the “Moon Court”, a
luminous core that connects all spaces vertically and symbolically. This atrium functions as
the gravitational centre of the design, gathering light, people, and ideas into one collective
space of interaction and inspiration. Surrounding this heart, the program is arranged to
reflect different phases of empowerment, from foundation to leadership, from the inner self to
outward community engagement.
The basement represents the foundation or the mineral core of a star. It houses co-working
spaces, incubation offices, and training zones that nurture emerging entrepreneurs and
innovators. This level symbolizes potential, growth, and the unseen strength that anchors
every success story. The ground floor is conceived as the “Marketplace of Light”, a vibrant
public space and women’s marketplace that showcases local crafts, food, and creative
products. It acts as a bridge between the building and the urban streetscape, encouraging
interaction between women creators and the wider community through open, porous
boundaries.
The first floor forms the “Constellation Network”, emphasizing connection, collaboration, and
innovation. It contains business accelerator spaces, digital hubs, and meeting lounges that
link women across industries and disciplines, creating a network of shared knowledge and
empowerment. The second floor, known as the “Shining Stars” layer, celebrates leadership
and well-being. It features a gallery of women leaders, wellness and reflection spaces, and a
rooftop “Constellation Garden” where visitors can gather, meditate, and celebrate
achievements under the open sky.
Architecturally, RATU is designed to express lightness, rhythm, and unity. The façades
feature star-like perforations and reflective panels that capture and refract light, allowing the
building to shimmer by day and glow by night like a constellation suspended above Bukit
Bintang. Layered rooflines mimic celestial formations, while terraces and green decks
ensure visual and physical connections between the interior and exterior. The use of natural
light, ventilation, and greenery creates a comfortable, inclusive, and sustainable environment
that encourages both productivity and reflection.
