Project idea

Blue Parking with Coastal Public Realm is a sustainable waterfront development proposal that reimagines conventional parking infrastructure as an active public space. The project addresses the lack of accessible recreational spaces along the coastline while responding to increasing parking demands in urban waterfront areas. By integrating blue-green infrastructure, public gathering spaces, landscape interventions, and coastal resilience strategies, the project transforms a functional parking facility into a vibrant civic destination that reconnects people with the waterfront environment.

Project description

The project proposes a multifunctional coastal public realm integrated with a structured parking facility. Rather than treating parking as a standalone infrastructure element, the design creates a layered public landscape that accommodates recreation, social interaction, cultural activities, and ecological restoration.

The development includes pedestrian promenades, viewing decks, shaded seating areas, landscaped open spaces, event plazas, children's activity zones, and waterfront recreational spaces. Native coastal vegetation and permeable surfaces are incorporated to improve environmental performance and reduce urban heat gain.

The design promotes walkability, strengthens the relationship between the city and the waterfront, and creates an inclusive public destination that remains active throughout the day while supporting sustainable urban mobility.
