"RAWAFID" is a Women Business Center proposed in Port Said, Egypt, developed in response to the challenges of female unemployment, limited economic participation, and the lack of integrated support systems for women in the workforce. The project aims to create an inclusive environment that empowers women through education, professional training, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities, and community engagement.
The concept is inspired by the meaning of "Rafed" or tributaries, which come together to strengthen and sustain a greater flow. Similarly, the project brings together multiple support systems, including business incubation, coworking spaces, vocational training, childcare facilities, healthcare services, and social amenities, within a single integrated platform. These components work collectively to support women throughout their professional journey, from skill development and career preparation to business creation and leadership.
Located in Port Said, a city with significant economic potential yet noticeable disparities in female workforce participation, the project seeks to bridge the gap between education and employment while fostering innovation, collaboration, and economic independence. Through its architecture, program, and civic presence, the center serves as a catalyst for social and economic development, creating opportunities for women to contribute actively to the growth and future of their communities.
The ultimate objective of the project is to establish a sustainable ecosystem that transforms women from job seekers into leaders, entrepreneurs, and active contributors to the local economy, while reinforcing the principles of empowerment, inclusion, and lifelong growth.
The project addresses the issue of female unemployment and limited economic participation in Port Said through the development of an integrated Women Business Center. The scope of the solution extends beyond providing office spaces and focuses on creating a comprehensive ecosystem that supports women at different stages of their professional and personal development.
The project provides vocational training, professional development programs, business incubation facilities, coworking spaces, startup support services, and employment opportunities through partnerships with private companies and organizations. It also includes childcare facilities, healthcare services, mentoring programs, networking spaces, and community support functions that help remove barriers preventing women from entering and remaining in the workforce.
The center aims to bridge the gap between education, training, employment, and entrepreneurship by offering a platform where women can acquire skills, gain practical experience, access professional networks, establish businesses, and achieve economic independence. Through this integrated approach, the project contributes to social inclusion, economic growth, community development, and the empowerment of women as active participants in the future development of Port Said.
