Project idea

Creating a space as an emotional embrace for cancer patients through spatial elements and expressive colors to reduce anxiety, overcome boredom of repeated therapy, and provide psychological support so that patients maintain hope and enthusiasm for recovery during treatment.

Project description

The project redesigns the Adi Husada Cancer Center in Surabaya, addressing issues of poorly organized space, overly clinical atmosphere, and interior design unsuitable for all ages. The design goals include well-organized areas, a therapeutic environment, and adaptability. The project spans three floors and is guided by design principles of Design for Domesticity (feels like home), Social Valorisation (privacy), and Psychological Comfort (psychological and mental safety). A soft green and neutral color palette is used to create a calming, welcoming atmosphere with organic curved forms at the reception and throughout the interior spaces.

Technical information

The project covers three floors of the cancer center with detailed floor plans for each level. Materials and color palettes are carefully selected with muted greens and earth tones. The design incorporates curved reception desks, arched doorways, natural light elements, bamboo plants, and warm wood finishes to create a non-clinical healing environment.
