Project idea

SENADA Community Music Center is an interior redesign project that transforms an existing billiard venue at Lenmarc Mall Surabaya into a creative and inclusive music hub. The project was inspired by the lack of permanent, acoustically appropriate, and affordable facilities for music communities in Surabaya. Many choirs, bands, orchestras, and music learners currently rely on temporary venues that do not support proper rehearsal, performance, and social interaction. SENADA aims to provide a safe, comfortable, and collaborative environment where musicians of all ages can learn, rehearse, perform, and connect while strengthening the local creative ecosystem.

Project description

The project consists of several integrated facilities designed to support music education, practice, performance, and community interaction. The main areas include a lobby and reception, community café, recital and choir room, band practice rooms, recording rooms, control rooms, lesson rooms, backstage facilities, storage areas, and supporting circulation spaces. The design adopts the concept of “Resonant Rhythm,” translating musical resonance into spatial experiences through rhythm, movement, and connectivity. SENADA functions as both a music learning center and a community hub, encouraging collaboration, creativity, and social engagement among musicians and visitors.

Technical information

The project occupies an existing commercial space of approximately 1,100 square meters located on the second floor of Lenmarc Mall Surabaya. The building utilizes a reinforced concrete structural system with centralized building utilities and an open-plan layout that allows flexible zoning. Acoustic performance is achieved through insulated walls, perforated wood panels, fabric absorbers, acoustic diffusers, suspended acoustic ceilings, and soundproof recording spaces. The interior adopts a Modern Minimalist Japandi style with warm wood finishes, neutral colors, modular furniture, layered lighting systems, and ergonomic spatial planning to create a comfortable, functional, and acoustically controlled environment for music-related activities.
