Project Statement: “Country Cottage”
Project Concept
“Country House Cottage” is a family home interior project based on the idea of calmness, predictability, and comfort for every family member. The main concept is not only to create a functional space but to design an environment that supports the family’s daily rhythm, reduces sensory overload, and helps a child on the autism spectrum feel safe, comfortable, and independent.
The interior should feel warm, natural, and welcoming, without creating the atmosphere of a therapeutic facility. The space should remain lively and emotional while maintaining clear structure, logical organization, and controlled sensory stimulation.
Project Context
The clients are a couple — Bohdan (36) and Marta (35), raising two children: Roman (10) and Eva (2). The family prefers a calm home lifestyle, spends a lot of time together, cooks at home every day, and values stability and predictable daily routines.
Bohdan works remotely, so the house needs a dedicated home office with good acoustic comfort and an environment suitable for concentration. Marta also works partly from home, therefore the interior should support a balance between family life and professional activities.
The family also has a calm dog, Knopka, who is an important part of the home environment and provides emotional comfort.
Main Project Goal
To create a sensory-friendly and adaptive home where:
a child on the autism spectrum can regulate their emotions and sensory state through a thoughtfully designed environment;
each area has a clear purpose and logical organization;
the interior supports a peaceful family routine;
the space minimizes unnecessary noise, visual overload, and stress;
the home remains a warm family environment rather than becoming a therapeutic space.
Main Project Objectives
1. Creating a Predictable Environment
The interior should provide a clear and understandable structure:
functional zoning;
logical movement routes;
organized storage systems;
minimal visual noise;
absence of excessive decoration and random accents.
The space should help the child navigate confidently and reduce anxiety.
2. Sensory Adaptation of the Space
Special attention is given to Roman’s needs:
adjustable and soft lighting;
warm materials and tactile textures;
good acoustic solutions;
minimal use of glossy surfaces;
hidden storage systems;
opportunities for privacy and relaxation.
A separate sensory area is planned with soft elements, a comfortable relaxation zone, and tactile activities for emotional regulation.
3. Designing Children’s Spaces
Roman’s room should support his interests and development:
a construction and modeling area;
storage and display space for his railway and space-related collections;
a large working desk;
structured organization of personal items.
Eva’s room should be safe, open, and adapted to a young child’s needs:
free play area;
low-level storage;
reading corner;
safe and comfortable materials.
4. Creating the Family Core of the Home
The kitchen-dining area and living room should become the main spaces for family interaction.
Important design solutions:
comfortable everyday cooking process;
organized food storage;
sufficient closed storage systems;
dedicated space for children’s dishes and snacks;
comfortable family dining area;
controlled lighting and calm atmosphere.
5. Supporting Work and Concentration
Bohdan’s home office should provide:
acoustic comfort;
minimal distractions;
ergonomic workspace;
sufficient storage for equipment and documents.
6. Safety and Technology
The house should include:
safe furniture fittings;
protected electrical outlets;
hidden cables;
warm non-slip flooring;
safe movement routes;
soft night lighting.
Smart home systems should be minimal but practical:
lighting scenarios;
automated curtains;
climate control;
simple and understandable operation.
Atmosphere and Visual Identity of the Future Home
The visual concept is a calm modern country house with natural materials, soft colors, and a feeling of stability.
The interior should express:
safety;
warmth;
order;
family connection;
the ability to rest from the outside world.
Every design element should respond not only to aesthetic requirements but also to the emotional needs of the residents.
Expected Outcome
The final result should be a home that helps the family live more peacefully: a place where the child can develop comfortably and regulate their sensory needs, where parents can maintain a balanced daily routine, and where everyone feels that home is a safe, supportive, and welcoming place.
