Project idea

Main focus of this project, Renovation of the townhall of Prievoz, was to ease the building of historical layers, open up the floor plan and present new functions in a form of variable space of the Townhall as well as community centre in a former house of notary.

Project description

Renovation of the townhall of Prievoz consists of two objects, the townhall itself and additional building of the house of notary. The main approach was to reconsider the essential architectural values and propose new functional implementation. Townhall is transformed into a variable space, introducing various functions, such as gallery, museum or marital aula. The former house of notary is completely disburdened from historical layers and is repurposed to a community centre opened to three sides: the front yard, backyard and loft. The basement of the townhall was also opened, lightened and repurposed to a partial community centre operated as a performance room.

Technical information

The crucial part of the renovation was a complete replacement of the dome. It was formerly capped and unseen. We decided to open it replace the old wooden beams to steel plates and glass panels to let light through the construction and attract maximum possible attention to the space below, which was repurposed to be the central room of the townhall. Second most major entry into construction was a greenhouse on the side of the community centre, which was a complete new form supplementing the volume of the building. It is a steel construction with polycarbonate sheet in between and net from the side for plants.
