Spark the Mind, Restore the Body - A neurorehabilitation center design that influences cognition, sensation, and spatial navigation through elements such as natural light, spatial layout, sensory cues, textures, materials, and circulation organization, with lighting design having measurable effects on neural responses and emotional states.
The project designs a neurorehabilitation clinic that integrates sensory memory concepts into its architecture. The design incorporates patterns with familiar memories through five senses, creating a healing environment. The circular gesture provides shape to the spaces with soft light and calm spatial experiences to evoke a sense of familiarity and belonging. The facility is organized into multiple zones including consultation rooms, treatment areas, a gym, prayer room, and reception. Case studies of rehabilitation centers including the 165 Rehab Clinic in Basel, Musholm Extension by AART Architects, Rehabilitation Centre Groot Klimmendaal, and RoboClinic in Riyadh informed the design approach. Materials include earth-toned elements and curved architectural forms inspired by regional architecture.
The project includes ground floor and first floor plans at 1:100 scale, enlarged room plans at 1:20 scale, room sections at 1:20, gym section at 1:20, prayer room section at 1:20, and reception section at 1:20. Construction details are referenced as IDE 402. The facility is divided into multiple zones (Zone 1-5) with distinct functional areas. The zoning includes public zones, wellness and psychological zones, patient treatment areas, consultation rooms, and recreation areas. Lighting proposals utilize natural light through skylights and controlled artificial lighting. The color scheme uses warm earth tones with materials including brick, wood, and textured surfaces.
