Project idea

The main idea of this project is rooted in the deep symbiosis between contemporary family living and the traditional landscape of a fruit orchard. The core concept does not merely place a house on a plot, but sensitively embeds it within the orchard, making the trees an integral part of the daily living experience. The architecture acts as a subtle filter between the intimacy of the family home and the surrounding nature. The spatial layout is intentionally designed to maximize visual and physical connections to the garden, allowing the changing seasons and the natural rhythm of the orchard to actively shape the atmosphere inside the house.

Project description

The project encompasses the comprehensive architectural and spatial design of a single-family house located in Roztoky, thoughtfully situated within an existing fruit orchard. The scope of work includes site planning, volumetric design, and the detailed functional layout of the interior spaces, alongside the integration of the building into the surrounding landscape.

The house is designed as a two-story structure with a clear division of functional zones. The social core of the house—comprising the living room, dining area, and kitchen—is strategically oriented to open directly into the orchard, utilizing large-format glazing and sliding doors to blur the boundaries between the interior and the exterior. The private zone, including bedrooms and facilities, is positioned to ensure maximum privacy and acoustic comfort.

Technical information

The technical design of the house prioritizes energy efficiency, sustainability, and minimal impact on the existing orchard plot.

Structural System: The primary load-bearing structure is designed as a timber frame construction (CLT panels), providing optimal structural stability and thermal mass.

Facade and Roof: The exterior envelope features [např. a ventilated facade with natural timber cladding / textured plaster]. The roof is designed as a [např. flat green roof to improve microclimate and water retention / pitched roof with seam metal roofing].

Energy Concept & HVAC: The house is designed to meet low-energy standards. Heating and cooling are provided by an air-to-water heat pump, complemented by a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery (HRV) to ensure optimal indoor air quality.

Water Management: Rainwater from the roof is harvested into an underground retention tank and reused for irrigating the surrounding orchard, maintaining the plot's natural water cycle.
