A large-span swimming complex designed for 1000 visitors, featuring an expressive organic structural form integrated into a winter landscape setting.
The large-span swimming pool project is located in the Akademgorodok area of Tomsk, directly connected to the planned inter-university campus. The complex will become an important public and sports center, uniting the campus and the urban environment with a system of pedestrian connections. The main compositional axis is a cable-stayed bridge that connects the campus to the pool and transitions into a network of walking bridges and observation decks over an artificial reservoir.
The architectural design utilizes the existing terrain. Terraced landscaping creates a multi-level public space with recreation areas, playgrounds, sports fields, and walking trails. The reservoir not only serves as the compositional centerpiece of the area but is also used in winter for active recreation and public skating.
The functional organization of the building separates the flow of visitors and athletes: the main entrance for spectators is located on the second floor, providing direct access to the stands, while the first level is primarily dedicated to sports infrastructure. The swimming pool area is covered by a large-span cable-stayed structure, and extensive skylights provide natural light. A dynamic façade with a system of folding sun protection panels allows for controlled solar exposure and creates a distinctive architectural image for the complex.
The project combines modern engineering solutions, a distinctive design, and careful integration into the natural landscape, creating an all-season public space for sports, recreation, and urban living.
