Sary aims to introduce a new paradigm for waterfront architecture, evolving from traditional ports to an immersive maritime destination. By bringing production facilities with entertainment, educational, and seafood experiences, the project fosters a vibrant coastal economy and creates a comprehensive social brand for Marsa Matrouh.
The project addresses the problem of a waterfront area enclosed by high walls, completely preventing people from accessing or seeing the sea, with no physical link or attractive connection to important zones without any public spaces or functions. The valuable waterfront lacks public spaces and functions, serving only as a single-function area. The design transforms a single-use industrial coast into an open, multi-functional zone that reconnects the city with the sea, providing a direct organized platform for local boats. The program includes a fishing pier, handling hall, sorting and pricing hall, loading dock, waste rooms, ice storage rooms, retail hall, wholesale and auction interior spaces, along with supporting facilities like kitchens, restaurants, bathrooms, and outdoor seating areas.
Site area is approximately 50,000 sqm located in Marsa Matrouh, Alexandria Region, Egypt. Site access via a 24-meter wide street. Prevailing winds from North-West (NW) at 7m/s. The structural system uses reinforced concrete skeleton system with beams and columns. Form development follows primary block placement, mass subtraction, mass fragmentation, and final configuration. Drawings include master plan at 1/250 scale, site plan at 1/700 scale, sections A-A and B-B at 1/250, north and south elevations at 1/250, and west elevation at 1/250. Urban street design and 3D zoning studies are included along with environmental studies.
