The Floating Edge is a fishing hub located on Rommel Bay in Marsa Matrouh. The project is inspired by the sharp rocky coastline and the edge between land and sea. It transforms the traditional fish market into a public waterfront experience that combines fish auction, market, restaurants, food court, and fishing activities through a dynamic architectural language.
The project follows the journey of fish from the sea to the service pier, auction hall, fish market, and restaurants. It separates public visitor circulation from service and fishermen circulation while allowing visitors to experience the fishing culture of Marsa Matrouh. The fragmented masses are inspired by the rocky coastal lines, creating a deconstructivist form that extends toward the waterfront and strengthens the relationship between city, sea, and public space.
The project is located on a 30,000 m² waterfront site in Marsa Matrouh,The project includes a site plan scale 1:800, ground floor plan scale 1:250, first floor plan scale 1:500, first underground plan scale 1:500 at -4.5 m, and second underground plan scale 1:500 at -9.0 m. It also includes elevations and sections at scale 1:400, 3D zoning, exploded diagram, structure system, and form development. The project is organized into auction hall, fish market, restaurants, and food court zones, with separated visitor, service, fishermen, and fish circulation. The structure is based on steel frames, long-span members, and V-shaped columns supporting the floating masses.
