PROJECT IDEA

Capsule House proposes an urban residential model for dense and narrow lots in Florentin, Tel Aviv. The project responds to the need for compact, flexible housing in a dynamic neighborhood characterized by young residents, mixed uses, small apartments and a high urban density.

The main idea is to rethink the apartment as a clear and independent capsule unit. Each unit has its own defined boundary, while connecting to a shared circulation core and to the existing urban fabric. The capsule is not only a formal inspiration from the Nakagin Capsule Tower, but also a planning strategy that allows order, repetition, flexibility and a variety of living situations within one compact building.

Project description

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project consists of a residential building organized around a fixed central core. Around this core, different capsule units are stacked and arranged in several directions: lengthwise, widthwise and vertically. This creates a flexible system of apartments that can change in size, orientation and spatial character, while still belonging to one clear architectural order.

The ground floor includes public and shared functions such as a coffee shop, coworking space, entrances and service/storage areas, creating a connection between the building and the street. The upper floors contain the residential capsule units, and the roof becomes an additional shared open space. The changing arrangement of the capsules creates a dynamic facade and reflects the dense, active rhythm of life in Florentin.

Technical information

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

The project is based on a prefabricated modular construction method. The residential units are designed as repeatable capsule elements that can be manufactured in advance and brought to the site ready for assembly. This method supports greater precision, shorter construction time and reduced waste on site.

The building is organized around a fixed circulation and service core, to which the different capsule units are connected. The capsules are arranged in three main variations: lengthwise, widthwise and vertically. This system allows the building to remain compact and efficient while offering different apartment types and living conditions. The project includes ground floor public/commercial functions, residential units on the upper floors, and a shared roof level.
