Rooted in the heritage of Dhaka Muslin, the project transforms traditional weaving environments into a contemporary space for making, learning, and cultural continuity: where heritage is experienced, practiced, and carried forward through everyday life.
The Muslin Research and Training Institute is envisioned as a contemporary space dedicated to the revival, preservation, and continuation of Dhaka Muslin: one of Bengal’s most significant textile heritages. Inspired by the spatial character of traditional muslin weaving homesteads, the project reinterprets their courtyard-centered and climate-responsive qualities within an institutional setting for production, research, learning, and public engagement.
By integrating environmental strategies, spaces for knowledge transfer, and immersive visitor experiences, the institute positions muslin not as a preserved artifact but as a living cultural practice that continues through making, community, and everyday use.
