Project idea

A climbing hall design that translates the energy of climbing directly into architecture through bold volumes and deliberate setbacks, creating spatial dynamism with uncompromising functionality.

Project description

The design of this climbing hall combines architectural expressiveness with uncompromising functionality. The outer cubature creates a striking spatial dynamic through bold volumes and deliberate setbacks, translating the energy of climbing directly into the architecture. Inside, this expressiveness is supported by a well-thought-out, user-centered floor plan. The entire spatial organization is consistently oriented around the natural daily routine on site. A logical wayfinding system intuitively and seamlessly guides guests from the clear reception area through the changing rooms to the open climbing and lounge areas. The result is a building that makes the athletic ambition visually experiential while simultaneously guaranteeing smooth, relaxed operations.

Technical information

The project includes multiple floors shown at 1:200 scale: ground floor (Erdgeschoss) with toprope, vorstieg (lead climbing), café, check-in, changing rooms, WC, outdoor toprope and outdoor vorstieg areas; upper floors (1st through 4th Obergeschoss) containing spray wall, equipment storage, hangboard/campus board, free climbing areas, school areas, storage, and additional climbing zones. The building is situated within a park landscape (Parkanlage) with adjacent parking areas.
