Project idea

The project proposes a Livable Art Archive and Civic Center in Venice, conceived as a cultural infrastructure that frees the ground through a suspended volume supported by structural portals and organizes a flexible underground archive. Its aim is to integrate artistic production, preservation, and public space into a continuous system where structure and city merge.

Project description

The project solution achieves a comprehensive transformation of the site by creating a cultural infrastructure that completely redefines its relationship with the ground, structure, and public space. Through a system of structural portals, a suspended volume, and an underground archive, the project frees the ground level, maximizes public space, and establishes a flexible, efficient, and time-adaptable architecture.

Technical information

The project is resolved through a primary structure of large steel portals working in conjunction with a system of trusses and cables to suspend the main volume over the site. The foundation consists of a micropiled reinforced concrete slab that absorbs and redistributes loads into the ground. Beneath the suspended volume, a subterranean level is provided for the archive, executed as a column-free space with a flexible structure and mobile storage and partition systems. The whole system integrates building services within the structural framework, optimizing technical performance and ensuring future adaptability.
