Project idea

"My project is a Bedouin eco-resort in Marsa Matrouh—called Al-Hidn—and its core philosophy is that architecture embraces the desert rather than resisting it."

— Site Analysis
"The site is located at the western gateway to Matrouh—the Matrouh-Siwa road. It has three main constraints: seasonal flash floods coming from the east to the right, northwesterly winds, and the sloping terrain to the west. This meant that every design decision I made was based on responding to these constraints, not ignoring them."

Project description

"The concept was born from three interconnected ideas:
The oval shape—this is the primary generator that created the circular loops in the plan—like waves of a stone in water.
The sand dunes—inspired the undulating masses—not just aesthetically, but because the dunes are shaped by the wind, the undulating masses effectively reduce air resistance.
The tree—provided the structural system and created the cort at the heart."

— The Functional Program
"The project comprises eight functional zones across 3,925 square meters—the largest being the equestrian and stable area at 25%, as it represents the Bedouin heart of the project, followed by the residential area at 20%. The layout follows a ring-like logic—public functions in the center, and private functions on the periphery."

Technical information

The structural system is based on the concept of combining two structural systems: tree structural and shell structural, using local materials. As for the residential areas, they rely on a load-bearing wall system with palm trunk roofing.
