Thaloria is envisioned as an educational and recreational center located in Toila, Estonia, inspired by the relationship between nature, community, and learning. The concept aims to create an inclusive environment where children, families, and visitors can interact, play, learn, and connect with the surrounding coastal landscape. Drawing inspiration from the natural identity of Toila, the project promotes sustainability, environmental awareness, and social engagement through architecture that blends harmoniously with its context.
The project combines educational, recreational, sports, and community functions within an integrated circular composition. Spaces are organized to encourage interaction, accessibility, and sensory experiences while maintaining a strong connection to the natural environment. The design includes indoor learning areas, sports facilities, playgrounds, public gathering spaces, recreational zones, and landscaped outdoor environments. Public, semi-public, and private areas are carefully arranged to ensure flexibility, inclusivity, and a vibrant community atmosphere that supports lifelong learning and well-being.
The project is primarily constructed using locally sourced timber, chosen for its sustainability, low environmental impact, and strong connection to the regional architectural identity. Timber structural systems are complemented by natural finishes, permeable surfaces, and extensive landscaping. The design incorporates passive environmental strategies, natural daylighting, and green spaces to enhance user comfort and minimize energy consumption. The circular form optimizes spatial organization while strengthening the relationship between architecture, landscape, and the coastal setting of Toila.
