Project description

The project proposes a School of Performing Arts and Film at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. The design employs brick construction with perforated ceiling and wall screens that filter natural light, creating dramatic patterns of light and shadow throughout the interior corridors and spaces. The architectural language draws on local materiality with exposed brick walls and metal railings, while the patterned openings in the roof and wall elements provide passive cooling and atmospheric interior conditions suited to the tropical climate.
