Project idea

This project was not only designed to host special occasions held in its event hall, but to also be a direct response to the everyday life activities for the people of Kozármisleny. The civic center`s main concept revolves around visual connection , between different interior volumes and between the building itself and the beautiful artificial lake facing it. This concept was maintained throughout a series of adjustments to the used architectural elements within the building and then outside of it.

Project description

The concept was finally achieved by series of decisions. First interiorly: by creating a public staircase dedicated for moving between the two floors and creating a social zone allowing human interaction. In addition to that, the interior volumes were carefully composed to create spacial contrast and openness. If you think about it, it looks more like a simple puzzle pieces.
Then to create that connection with the exterior surrounding. A system of huge curtain walls facing the southern side of the building was placed directly looking out to the lake scenery, topped off with the lamels for that perfect sun shading and exterior aesthetic. A system of skylights was strategically aligned for an extra sun access and more connection with the outdoor world.

Technical information

As for the technical solution for this project. A combination of materials was used in various structural elements. We also happen have two different structural systems within the building, one specifically for the event hall and the other for the rest of the building.
The solution chosen for the extended cantilevered part of the building, was to have that part supported in a "hanged" manner using steel cables. As seen in the sectional details. The event hall part is supported by a steel truss that can maintain that column free space uninterruptedly, having the steel truss sitting on two loadbearing walls.
