The "Surdud Hub" was inspired by the rugged mountains of Mahwit. The idea is simple: turning a local solution (using car engines for transport) into a world-class engineering system. The design creates a balance between solid traditional stone and modern lightweight steel, acting as a "bridge" that connects the community's needs with the beauty of nature and modern technology.
The architectural solution is based on a "smart intervention" in the mountains through:
Building with the Land: Designing terraced buildings that follow the mountain's slope and anchor into the rock to protect the environment.
Easy Pathways: Creating smooth paths between stations that are accessible and comfortable for everyone, including the elderly and disabled.
Integrated Services: Combining shops, cafes, and services into one system that serves both visitors and the local community.
Structural System: A Hybrid System using reinforced concrete with Rock Anchors for stability, paired with Lightweight Steel for high-wind resistant cantilevers.
Transit Tech: Monocable Detachable Gondola with eco-friendly electric motors, automated safety sensors, and an emergency auxiliary drive.
Sustainability: Fog Harvesting networks for potable water and a Biodigester system for onsite waste-to-irrigation conversion.
Materials: Local Basalt Stone for thermal mass and Double-Glazed Glass for panoramic, condensation-free views.
