Project idea

“Reviving Dahshur Lake” aims to restore the ecological and cultural balance of Manshiyet Dahshur by reactivating the once-forgotten lake as a living landscape. The project integrates environmental preservation with cultural and educational functions, transforming the lake into a catalyst for sustainable development and community engagement. Inspired by the natural and historical identity of Dahshur, the design reconnects people with water, heritage, and nature through architecture that respects the site’s spirit.

Project description

The project reimagines the lake and its surroundings as a dynamic ecological and cultural park composed of multiple zones: an eco-narrative center, educational workshops, community spaces, and eco-pathways connecting the site to the nearby pyramids. The architectural language blends with the landscape through the use of local materials, soft topography transitions, and shaded courtyards. The spaces invite visitors to experience the story of Dahshur—its history, nature, and people—through interaction, observation, and reflection.

Technical information

The structure is built using sustainable materials such as local limestone and rammed earth to harmonize with the natural context and minimize environmental impact. Passive cooling strategies, natural ventilation, and shaded courtyards are integrated to maintain thermal comfort and energy efficiency. The design follows the natural topography of Dahshur Lake, creating a smooth relationship between built form, landscape, and water, emphasizing ecological balance and continuity with the environment.
