INTERMEDIARY is a conceptual hotel and resort that explores the relationship between untouched nature and human intervention. The project is inspired by the idea of an intermediary—an element that connects two distinct conditions while preserving the identity of both.

The concept originated from two references. The first was an athletic shoe, which functions as an intermediary between the human body and the ground. The second was the Yokohama International Passenger Terminal in Japan, which acts as an intermediary between the city and the sea. Translating these concepts into architecture, the project becomes a mediator between the natural landscape and human occupation, creating harmony rather than domination.

INTERMEDIARY is positioned within a narrow mountain valley, allowing the surrounding cliffs to become active components of the architectural system. Instead of occupying the landscape through conventional construction, the project suspends its accommodation units, public spaces, and circulation network between the rock faces, preserving the valley floor and minimizing environmental impact.

The design is organized around a central vertical circulation spine that connects guest rooms, public facilities, observation decks, restaurants, and shared amenities. Modular accommodation pods are attached to a lightweight structural framework, creating panoramic views while maintaining a minimal physical footprint on the site.

The project redefines hospitality by allowing visitors to experience nature from within rather than above it. Architecture becomes a transition between wilderness and habitation, emphasizing coexistence instead of replacement.

The project eliminates the need for conventional ground foundations by using the surrounding mountains as its primary structural support. Through rock nailing technology, steel anchors are drilled into the cliff faces, allowing the mountains to function as a vertical foundation system.

A lightweight steel space-frame transfers structural loads directly to the anchored rock walls, reducing excavation and preserving the existing terrain. Modular prefabricated accommodation units are suspended from the structural frame, allowing efficient construction while minimizing disturbance to the natural environment.

This structural strategy reduces the project's footprint, limits soil disruption, and demonstrates an alternative approach to building within sensitive landscapes by integrating engineering with natural geological conditions.
