Candela: The base unit of luminous intensity in the International System of Units that is equal to the luminous intensity in a given direction of a source which emits monochromatic radiation... also called CANDLE. My intention was to light up the urban space of akure with CANDELA!

Multi-level Car Park Development is of key importance in any developing city. Akure is experiencing increased level of traffic and congestion due to wider car ownership and usage. The Proposed Multi Level Car Park Development entails the establishment of a 400 car park development within the Central Business District of Akure. The aim of this project is to create more car parking spaces for the Oja-oba market and to also ease congestion on the Arakale road by reducing cars parked along the road. The Objectives are; • To provide a parking structure that will enhance the effective movement of automobile and the users. • To design an economical viable structure which will also ensure safety of automobiles and the users. • To develop a befitting scheme for the internal revenue of the state.

The following are the spaces and facilities to be provided to have an efficient multi-level parking complex: • Parking Spaces • Admin Offices • Conveniences • Vehicular ramps • Stairs and Lifts • Auto Mat • Automobile Workshop • Other car services • Vehicle Towing • Security Post • Pedestrian Bridge

First of all, let me thank you for participating in the InspireLi awards and for all the efforts put into this project. Addressing urban scale problems in the city through trying to solve specific micro situations like congestion and parking issues is a very important task that should always be considered in city management. However, these kinds of situations require very sophisticated analytical studies of many parameters in the city from an urban pov, economic, demographical, etc. Following this logic, I really think that a more in-depth analysis of the urban surroundings of the area and how it connects to the rest of the city should have been introduced to us in order to affirm the use of the parking solution ( maybe the solution is not even creating a parking lot to begin with but rather banning cars from that area for example). The integration process of the building in the city is a tricky task and I believe in terms of choosing the forms was successful to some extent, especially the composition of the facade with greenery. For the other facades, I would rather suggest maybe toning them down a bit and going with a similar composition to the green facade with less dynamism and shapes. In general, I think that the project is functionally successful and the technical features are well integrated and thought of. The 3D illustrations are also of good quality and convey the atmosphere of the project very well. Thank you for your hard work and good luck in your future endeavors. Waddah DRIDI.
