The main idea is to design an open and transparent space
within a basic paradigm where people can find peace and
tranquility and connect themselves with their surroundings.
The mosque is a prayer room with a wall marked with a “mihrab” – a niche indicating the direction of Mecca, which Muslims should face when praying , A Muslim can pray anywhere, if there is no water available for a Muslim’s ablution, just perform ablution using clean sand or clean earth, face the qiblah and pray
The design is simply a semi-cube main prayer hall topped by a dome and surrounded by the rest of the cultural elements of the project, the formations are concrete blocks of pure white color with glass and gilded metal.
This project is a bit difficult for me to critique, because I do not have enough cultural knowledge to confidently say what is 'good' or 'bad' about your design. I will say that the people in your research, and the one praying individual in your rendering, are powerful. But the lack of people in many of your drawings make the project feel more object-focused than subject-focused. The landscape of your project also feels like an afterthought, rather than an opportunity to either reinforce your concept, or to propose a way of connecting your project to the water and/or the city context.
This is the type of project where I would really like to see more of the design process. What other site plan/side design approaches did you try? What were some of the specific challenges that you faced to solve this particular design challenge?
