Idea projektu

THE DESIGN INTENDS TO FIND THE SOLUTION TO THE BIG QUESTION, HOW A ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL IS GOING TO CRITICALLY AFFECT THE SOCIOCULTURAL CONTEXT OF PANADURA? HOW IS GOING TO CHANGE THE STAGNATION IN ARCHITECTURAL CURRICULUM, WHICH WAS EXACERBATED BY THE COVID-19? BUT AS THE PROJECT DEVELOPED, INTO SOMETHING MUCH MORE SIMPLE THAN THAT.IT ULTIMATELY BECAME THE RETOLD NARRATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A BUILDING, ITS PROCESS AND ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS. THIS BUILDING INCORPORATES THE CORE IDEOLOGIES OF THE DESIGN-BUILD CONCEPT, AND EXPRESSES THE TECTONIC BEAUTY OF AN ONGOING CONSTRUCTION. IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THAT, THE DESIGN ITSELF EVOLVES INTO AN ONGOING BUILDING PROCESS TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION AND THE GENERAL COMMUNITY OF PANADURA.

Popis projektu

The relationship between architecture students and the construction process begins with the design phase. Architecture students must understand the principles of construction in order to create designs that are feasible and can be built. They must also be able to communicate their designs to the construction team in a clear and concise way. Architecture students, the construction process, and the construction industry are all interconnected. Architecture students provide the vision for new buildings, the construction process brings that vision to life, and the construction industry provides the resources and expertise to make it happen.

life of a building

This project presents a visionary approach to architectural education by proposing a design that serves as both a learning environment and a community catalyst in Panadura. The concept reimagines an architecture school as an evolving structure that embodies the principles of the design-build pedagogy, fostering a dynamic relationship between students, the construction process, and the broader community. The building's design emphasizes the ongoing nature of construction, allowing students to engage directly with the building process, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. This hands-on approach not only enhances the educational experience but also encourages community involvement, making the construction process a shared journey. Material selection is thoughtfully aligned with the socio-economic context of Panadura, utilizing locally sourced and repurposed materials to reduce costs and reflect the region's material culture. The color palette draws inspiration from local urban initiatives, such as the UDA's street enhancements, incorporating vibrant hues to create a pedestrian-friendly and visually engaging environment. Overall, "Life of a Building" exemplifies a holistic and context-sensitive approach to architectural education and community development. Its innovative integration of learning, building, and community engagement sets a commendable precedent for future educational facilities.
