Exploring the Seamless Neuroscape

Idea projektu

Inspired by the desire to design for a special group of people and improve their daily lives through spatial design, this project aims to create a supportive environment for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Viewing architecture from a neurodiverse perspective, the goal is to create a space where children can live, learn, and feel a sense of belonging. This project not only provides an effective learning space but also empowers children to overcome their limitations, become more socially engaged, develop their skills, and ultimately lead independent and fulfilling lives.

Popis projektu

The project focuses on addressing the challenges faced by children with neurodevelopmental disorders in Bangladesh, where disability is often stigmatized. The primary objective is to create an inclusive and supportive environment for the children's well-being and development. The proposed institute incorporates vocational training, basic education, therapeutic interventions, and accommodation facilities. The research adopts a multidisciplinary approach, combining architectural design principles with insights from neurodevelopmental and behavioral sciences. By understanding the specific needs of each disorder, the design aims to optimize sensory stimulation, social interaction, and cognitive development. The site was selected by the client, which is located in the village Noyapara within the Daree-Khonekhani Union of Sreepur, Gazipur. It occupies around 4.7 acre site owned by the client. The site is surrounded by a green forest, which belongs to the government.

Technické informace

Exploring the Seamless Neuroscape" aims to create a space where all sensory elements are meticulously arranged to maintain sensory levels and sequences, while transitional zones between these elements are designed to function as preparatory spaces. This approach ensures a harmonious balance from a neurodiverse perspective, facilitating smooth transitions between different functions and making the overall journey mentally effortless.

Exploring the Seamless Neuroscape

This project commendably addresses a critical and underrepresented user group—children with neurodevelopmental disorders—through a design that emphasizes sensory modulation and cognitive support. The integration of therapeutic, educational, and residential functions is thoughtfully conceived. However, the architectural articulation remains somewhat generic, and the spatial transitions, while described, are not convincingly visualized or detailed. The connection between behavioral science and built form could be more deeply integrated. Additionally, the aesthetic language of the proposal could be enriched to better reflect the sensory goals. It is a socially valuable project that would benefit from further design development and stronger architectural expression.
