Symphony of Sand

Idea projektu

Nowadays, more and more people watch the same films, wear the same clothes and relax in the same places. This creates a certain mass effect, where each person resembles a grain of sand in a sandbox. In such conditions, in modern society there is a demand for finding one’s own individuality and recognition from the group. Defining the society of the future as ideological, creative and free, an innovative version of the vision of space – the “sandbox” – is introduced. In them, people could “build” their worlds, interact with others, develop creative thoughts and share them. Human individuality in this concept is perceived through certain images: grains of sand, aventurines and storms. A grain of sand has a unique shape and structure, symbolizing the peculiarity of each individual. Aventurine, a semi-precious stone, emphasizes the importance of non-linear exploration and experimentation, which help form innovative ideas. The storm raises the sand and enlivens the space. The proposed concept strives to create a dynamic environment that promotes the birth of ideas and the free exchange of thoughts between people. This introduces elements of play and collaboration into the space to stimulate creativity and innovation in society

Popis projektu

The "Symphony of Sand" complex is an innovative architectural solution based on a radial structure of cells for one, two and four people arranged in rings. The combination of these rings forms unique spaces, which are filled with both residential cells and public areas - “sandboxes”. Sandboxes are spaces where residents can create without restrictions or fear of judgement. They unite, inspire and pacify, creating an atmosphere of freedom and creativity. Some cells rise on platforms to the second level, freeing up space for public spaces and increasing the efficient use of space. The single-person cell creates an eco-friendly distance between the resident and others, providing privacy and inspiration. A well running through the entire space helps create this effect. The activity module on the third floor allows you to work focusedly without distractions. A cell for a group of two creates a private courtyard and transparent walls, bringing residents closer together and creating an atmosphere of openness. A cell for a group of four helps create a common rhythm of life, guiding people through stages with frequent communications and leading them to point zero - recreation. This structure helps maintain unity and brings together the residents of the Symphony of Sand complex

Technické informace

One of the unique design solutions in the “Symphony of Sand” project are cells raised on platforms. These are shallow-water platforms with columns supported on foundations. This approach will allow buildings located on the platform to avoid damage to the soil or destruction of the platform. Support on two columns provides stability with the necessary transparency. Also, due to the peculiarities of the territory, Dagestan stone was chosen for wall decoration. Several types of material are known under this name, for example, shell rock, sandstone, dolomite. The texture of the material allows you to enhance the image of the sandbox

Symphony of Sand

Dear Manon, Your project, Land for All, is a compelling and timely response to contemporary socio-political issues surrounding land, ownership, and displacement. The design manifests a profound commitment to social justice and community resilience, and you have succeeded in translating complex theoretical frameworks into an engaging spatial narrative. Strengths: 1. Social Engagement and Relevance: Your project clearly addresses a critical global challenge by advocating for equitable access to land. The socio-political depth of the proposal is commendable, and your commitment to empowering marginalized communities through architecture is both inspiring and necessary. 2. Narrative and Representation: The storytelling throughout your submission is strong, effectively combining diagrams, text, and imagery to communicate not only the architectural proposition but also the underlying values and philosophy guiding your design. This enhances both the clarity and emotional impact of the project. 3. Contextual Sensitivity: The integration of vernacular strategies, ecological concerns, and the participatory design process shows a sophisticated understanding of place-making. Your proposal is not only for a space, but for a system of support and dignity, which is central to human-centered design. Areas for Enhancement: 1. Architectural Detailing: While the conceptual approach is powerful, further development of architectural details (materials, construction methods, and climate responsiveness) would strengthen the feasibility and buildability of the proposal. These details would ground the narrative in practical application. 2. Spatial Resolution: Providing more defined spatial arrangements—interior plans, circulation routes, and spatial hierarchies—would help to better visualize how the project functions on a human scale, day-to-day. 3. Scalability and Replication: Given the strength of your conceptual model, it would be beneficial to articulate how the proposal could be adapted to different contexts or scaled to accommodate varied community sizes and needs. Conclusion: Land for All stands as a passionate and courageous architectural response to urgent global challenges. Your ability to intertwine ethics with spatial innovation is particularly commendable. With added focus on construction clarity and spatial definition, your project has the potential to serve as a model for future socially engaged architectural practices.
