Additional Info

This offer is from the Department of Biotechnology, and the intern's field of research would be Plant–Microbe Interactions with a focus on Secondary Metabolite Profiling and Antimicrobial Bioassays.

Work description

Plant–Microbe Synergy for Enhanced Antimicrobial Compound ProductionOverview:This internship explores the potential of plant–microbe interactions to stimulate the production of antimicrobial compounds. Endophytic and rhizospheric microorganisms can enhance plant secondary metabolism, leading to improved yields of bioactive molecules. By co-culturing medicinal plant tissues with beneficial microbes, this project aims to induce or amplify antimicrobial compound production, followed by extraction and chemical profiling.Objectives:1)Select a medicinal plant species with known antimicrobial properties.2)Isolate and characterize endophytic or rhizospheric microbes.3)Establish plant tissue cultures and design controlled co-culture experiments.Outcomes:1)Isolation of microbial strains capable of enhancing metabolite production.2)Evidence of increased antimicrobial activity in co-cultured plant samples.3)Preliminary identification of bioactive compounds responsible for observed activity.Responsibilities:1)Select and prepare plant material for culture.2)Isolate, identify, and maintain microbial strains.3)Establish co-culture and control experiments.
