AFLAK: Museum Of Arab Astronomy

Project idea

The interior design of AFLAK Museum is a journey through a 'Nebula'. The core idea is to immerse visitors in a space that feels like the cosmos, using fluid shapes and circular light orbits to guide them through the history of Arab astronomy. It aims to make the scientific achievements of scholars like Al-Khwarizmi and Al-Biruni feel alive and futuristic, rather than just static history

Project description

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a monumental reception featuring a suspended lunar sphere that sets the celestial tone. The exhibition halls use dark, reflective surfaces to mimic the infinity of space, highlighted by glowing orbital rings on the ceilings and floors. The space is divided into interactive 'Astronomer Pavilions' where statues of scholars are integrated with digital holograms and telescopes, creating a seamless blend of historical heritage and modern technology

Technical information

The interior utilizes high-gloss epoxy flooring to enhance reflections, creating a sense of weightlessness. Acoustic stretch ceilings (Barrisol) with integrated LED strips are used to create the light orbits. The 'Astro-Pavilions' are constructed using white Corian and reinforced plaster for smooth, organic curves, while digital projection mapping is used on the walls to display real-time star maps and cosmic phenomena
