Work description

Project Title: Supramolecular Approaches for Metal Ion Recognition and Transport Using IonophoresAim: This project focuses on designing and investigating non-cyclic supramolecular ionophores for selective recognition, extraction, and transport of metal ions and their associated anions. By integrating experimental and computational approaches, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of host–guest chemistry, ion transport mechanisms, and potential practical applications of supramolecular systems.Key Responsibilities:1. Synthesize ionophores and their metal complexes, followed by characterization using UV-Vis, NMR, and other spectroscopic techniques.2. Perform computational studies, including molecular modeling and energy optimization (DFT, HOMO–LUMO analysis), to predict binding affinities and transport pathways.3. Conduct bulk liquid membrane transport experiments to evaluate selectivity and transport efficiency for different metal ions.4. Analyze and interpret experimental and computational results, document findings, and compare with existing literature.Expected Outcomes:1. Development of ionophores with selective recognition and transport capabilities for metal ions.2. Deeper understanding of supramolecular interactions and ion transport processes.3. Contribution to efficient and sustainable separation strategies.4. Hands-on training in synthesis, spectroscopy, computational modeling, and reporting.5. Acquisition of research skills applicable to academic and industrial supramolecular chemistry.
