Project idea

The main idea is to create a transparent cuboid that, in the rugged terrain of Divoká Šárka, does not act as a barrier but rather as an observable object. Glass surfaces maximize visual connections with the surrounding river and landscape, making the building almost disappear into its environment. Stability and solidity are provided by exposed concrete, whose texture and color evoke the natural stone and rocks typical of this locality.

Project description

The vertical rhythm of the facade, formed by subtle columns and ribs, directly interprets the trunks of surrounding trees and organically integrates the building into the forest growth. A double-pitched dynamic roof membrane, by its form, references the surface of water flowing from the depths, giving the flat geometry a sense of lightness and symbolism of a local water feature. The café thus becomes a place where the fluid form of the roof meets the rationality of the concrete base in a perfect symbiosis with the wild nature of Divoká Šárka.

Technical information

Construction consists of reinforced concrete slab roof (marquise), reinforced concrete deck, walls using POROTHERM 11.5, glass and wooden profiles, load-bearing walls in reinforced concrete, interior flooring with vinyl surface, terrace with exterior flooring on wooden deck joists, and wooden columns. Materials include exposed concrete, wood, and membrane. Floor plan and section at 1:75 scale, with building dimensions approximately 11000 x 8000 mm.
