The project's idea is to have affordable, environmental and social design that brings people together in a sustainable way

Project description

This project consist of durable building materials adopted in the site with good energy efficiency that is renewable harnessed, Having waste water collection and recycling and providing clean water but also the waste products form human beings being recycled to produce energy that will help boost lighting up of the rooms if sunny days becomes a challenge in the future.

Technical information

The building's construction is made form the mixture of raw rice husk mixed with clay soil in addition of water to make the bricks. The admixtures provided is to give durability to the bricks to withstand weather conditions and load. Also use of woods for purlins and trusses, roofing the building with clay tiles. The ceiling was provided by the use of sisal product which is made by the locals (Sukima people) living in the area.

Advice to students

Sustainable Hostel

JClay tiles are extremely heavy, are prone to breaking if not carefully worked on, and require installers with extensive experience. Like concrete and slate, a roof with clay tiles will need substantial reinforcement to support the extra weight of the clay.
