Culture Hub and Hotel in Hrušovany

Project idea

Building of cultural hub and hotel garni have been designed for the courtyard of Hrušovany Castle. Building offers accommodation in twelve rooms, center for cultural and social events. The building works with the sloping terrain. As a result, it does not dominate the landscape, but defines the courtyard and emphasizes the importance of the castle.

Project description

The building is designed as a single-story new structure without a basement, featuring an L-shaped floor plan. The building’s location within the castle’s historic preservation zone required a sensitive approach to its volumetric design. The building is designed to be low-rise so as not to disrupt the character of the area or the site’s historical values. The facade’s design combines modern and natural elements. A significant architectural feature is the large-format glazing of the facade, which visually connects the interior with the exterior. The most prominent element of the facade is the exterior sunshades, which help create a pleasant indoor environment. The facade consists of wood paneling combined with facade plaster.

Technical information

The building’s structural system is designed as a hybrid system, utilizing both masonry and prefabricated elements depending on the functional unit. The building is founded on strip footings. The foundation depth is -1.550 m. The walls in the hotel are masonry walls made of ceramic hollow blocks and concrete blocks. The load-bearing structure of the hall consists mainly of a skeleton. The vertical elements are columns made of glued laminated timber (GLT) with a cross-section of 200x800 mm. The perimeter walls of the hall are supplemented with concrete blocks. The ceiling structure consists of prefabricated reinforced concrete panels (filigree) with a connecting reinforced concrete slab (monolithic grout) and the second part is designed as a wooden coffered ceiling. The load-bearing beams are made of GLT wooden panels with a cross-section of 200x750 mm. The roof is flat. The roof structure is designed in two variants: a green roof (extensive vegetation, sedums) and a walkable roof (concrete paving on a sand bed).
