life of a building

Project idea

THE DESIGN INTENDS TO FIND THE SOLUTION TO THE BIG QUESTION, HOW A ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL IS GOING TO CRITICALLY AFFECT THE SOCIOCULTURAL CONTEXT OF PANADURA? HOW IS GOING TO CHANGE THE STAGNATION IN ARCHITECTURAL CURRICULUM, WHICH WAS EXACERBATED BY THE COVID-19? BUT AS THE PROJECT DEVELOPED, INTO SOMETHING MUCH MORE SIMPLE THAN THAT.IT ULTIMATELY BECAME THE RETOLD NARRATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A BUILDING, ITS PROCESS AND ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS. THIS BUILDING INCORPORATES THE CORE IDEOLOGIES OF THE DESIGN-BUILD CONCEPT, AND EXPRESSES THE TECTONIC BEAUTY OF AN ONGOING CONSTRUCTION. IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THAT, THE DESIGN ITSELF EVOLVES INTO AN ONGOING BUILDING PROCESS TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION AND THE GENERAL COMMUNITY OF PANADURA.

Project description

The relationship between architecture students and the construction process begins with the design phase. Architecture students must understand the principles of construction in order to create designs that are feasible and can be built. They must also be able to communicate their designs to the construction team in a clear and concise way. Architecture students, the construction process, and the construction industry are all interconnected. Architecture students provide the vision for new buildings, the construction process brings that vision to life, and the construction industry provides the resources and expertise to make it happen.

Reusing and re-adapting these materials helps to reduce the building cost and to respond to the local material culture of the region. Acquired materials are weather-coated and used in exterior surfaces, for the interior it's used in their original state. the color palette is inspired from the local context. A project done by UDA of Panadura developing the streets with diagonal colored stripes to enhance the outlook of the road as pedestrian and tourist friendly zone. These colors improve the dynamic quality of the road. The red color helps to express the rustic quality of steel and highlight, breakdown, certain elements of the design. According to architect Bernard Tshumi red draws visitors to spaces where an interaction is imitated. And ultimately, the building itself makes a statement.

Consejo a estudiantes
