Expozice nostalgické železnice Rokytnice nad Jizerou

Project idea

The project focuses on the revitalization and new utilization of the site at the terminal station of a nostalgic steam railway. The site is located on the eastern bank of the Jizera River within the cadastral area of Rokytnice nad Jizerou.

Project description

The railway museum serves as the centerpiece of the entire area, located near the original train station. This unique museum offers an immersive experience, where the trains are not only exhibits but also spaces for various activities. One of the carriages has been transformed into an escape room themed around a thrilling train robbery. For children, there is a specially adapted carriage with interactive play features, including a train-driving simulator. Another carriage functions as a small cinema, offering visitors a cozy place to enjoy films. For relaxation, guests can visit a café with a small library, providing a tranquil atmosphere to unwind. The original station building has been repurposed into an information center, while a historic train car near the museum now operates as a bistro with outdoor seating. Nearby, a playground with a small stream enhanced by playful water elements ensures entertainment for children, while cyclists can enjoy a pump track. The area also includes a small campsite, creating a well-rounded destination for all types of visitors.

Technical information

The museum's structure is designed with steel columns and trusses, allowing for an open and flexible interior space. The building features a lightweight exterior cladding, complemented by a robust green roof that enhances both aesthetics and sustainability. A smaller section of the museum is constructed from exposed concrete, adding a striking architectural contrast to the overall design.
