Safiral Letovice

Project idea

The basic design concept is based on the functional operation of a production hall and an administrative building. The structure consists of two interconnected volumes in the form of rectangular blocks. The administrative section is designed as a narrow, taller block, while the production hall takes the shape of a low, flat block. The volumes are set into slightly sloping terrain, allowing the second floor of the administrative building to connect directly to the roof of the production hall, which can be used as a usable outdoor space. During the design process, I focused on the layout of interior spaces based on their function and logical spatial relationships. I divided the building into functional zones: on the eastern side of the administrative building's ground floor are staff facilities, while the western side contains technical areas. The second floor is used for office spaces. The cladding materials were selected according to the client’s request—to visually express the purpose of the production on the façade. Since the company produces printed circuit boards, I chose perforated metal panels for the administrative façade, referencing the appearance of their products. The façade of the production hall is clad with HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) panels. To ensure sufficient natural lighting, I incorporated large windows, which are also present in the production hall.

Project description

The administrative building is divided into zones for the public, employees, and technical facilities. The production hall is organized into a production area, receiving, dispatch, and a paint shop. The main entrance to the building is located on the south side of the administrative part, on the ground floor. From the entrance hall with a reception/security desk, both employees and visitors enter the building through separate cloakrooms. On the eastern side of the ground floor, there is a shared canteen for all employees with service facilities, restrooms for the public and staff (including barrier-free access), a showroom for product presentation, and a large meeting room. The technical facilities are located on the western side of the floor. Access to both the second floor and the production hall is provided via staircases or an elevator. The second floor contains offices and the entrance to the green roof. Production employees have their own changing rooms with sanitary facilities, through which they enter the production hall. The hall itself is designed as an open space with a separate paint shop and storage areas for receiving and shipping.

Technical information

The primary structural system of the administrative building is based on a reinforced concrete skeletal framework, which provides a robust and durable support for the entire structure. Similarly, the production hall employs the same reinforced concrete frame system, ensuring consistency in structural performance and load distribution across both buildings. The floor slabs are constructed using reinforced concrete panels, offering excellent rigidity and the ability to span large areas without intermediate supports. This contributes to the creation of open and flexible interior spaces suited to various functional requirements. The partition walls that divide the individual rooms are made from concrete masonry units, with thicknesses of either 250 mm or 150 mm, chosen based on spatial and acoustic needs. The materials selected for the building’s exterior and interior finishes include: Glass, used extensively to enhance natural lighting and visual connectivity; Perforated metal panels, which serve both aesthetic and functional roles on the façade, allowing ventilation and visual interest; Exposed concrete, providing a raw, durable surface that emphasizes the building’s structural character; HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) panels, chosen for their durability, ease of maintenance, and clean appearance; Sandwich panels, used mainly for cladding technical areas, offering good thermal insulation and quick installation. This combination of materials balances functionality, aesthetic appeal, and structural efficiency, contributing to a cohesive architectural expression.
