Vertical Schools

Project idea

Design a vertical high school in a high-density area in Caracas, Venezuela. In the historical center of the city there are not enough schools for the population to attend. Strict regulations don't allow tall schools to be built. The idea of the project is to design a school in a small plot that contains the functions of a regular school without following the regulations.

Project description

A "T" shaped plot is selected for the project. Two intersecting roofs high above the ground allow for the development of a scheme that enables mobility, ventilation and entering of natural light. Around a central courtyard with views to the north, to the mountain of the city (el Avila), are the volumes that contain the program of the school. These volumes are connected by elevated walkways, ramps, staircases and two elevators, which connect visually the entire school.
