L'ICONE DE BEYROUTH

Project idea

Between water and land, a gateway to the sea and from there begins the discovery of the universe. Our universe, Beirut, the heart of Lebanon, the cedar on the flag, a gateway between east and west and a city known to the Phoenicians. The port of Beirut being its gateway, is recognized by the first Phoenician ship to spread the alphabet and numbers in the world, it is the channel of transmission of cultures and trade. Unfortunately, the port was destroyed by the horrific explosion, an event that affected the whole world. Between the port and Beirut, an urban divide exists a lack of public space and a concentration of buildings. The project will then be dedicated to this city as a kind of continuity of the city in the port, reconciliation of the port to the city, while commemorating the victims of the explosion.

Project description

"Continuity and individuality a commemoration is the continuation of the memory of a city. »The project being a ferry terminal, a project welcoming passengers and tourists. My architectural aim being to create an emblematic passage comprising the unique elements of the environment and specific elements of Beirut, drama and victory, to note that it is hope that dominates. This passage will be animated by spaces having a visual relationship with Beirut on the one hand and the sea on the other. This station will increase the flow of visitors, highlight the emotional atmosphere of the various themes, but also extend the memory of the city. The central part "the hall" emphasizes the difficult course of Beirut, the joy of victory and the vision of the peaceful realization of mankind. To this the hall will be animated by nature, with a kinetic envelope, a kind of integration of nature and reconstruction of hope in this city. A journey on both sides of the building for the discovery of this city with the aim of "a tower of hope": it is the rebirth of our city Beirut. "REBUILDING HOPE ..., IT'S OUR GLORY ..., IT'S OUR VICTORY ...." The station will be the gateway to the city and the icon of Beirut. “…. Beirut, a city of endless hope ………… ”.

Technical information

The hall animated by nature, a kinetic envelope (lighting and energy production). A sort of integration of nature, of the reconstruction of hope. As for the tower, made of ecological materials for a sustainable and ecological project. In order to avoid the large public spaces of Beirut such as lost spaces or parking spaces, my idea was to translate the memorial space into a green space. At that, my parking lot will be below the station and the bleachers to access it. What created a fascinating entrance to the station.

Saludos, Mostafa Magdy.
