SCHINDLER´S ARK SAVING COMPETITION:The Sustainable living village

Project idea

Based on the proposal, we understand that the south is planned to be provided with sustainable housing built for families and seniors. Due to the historical characteristics of the site (the northern part of the site is a survivor museum), we propose to think about green, sharing, and healing as the basic direction in the design of the sustainable living village in the south, hoping to commemorate the historical events and at the same time to create a vibrant, multi-functional, open and sharing sustainable living settlement. It will be deeply integrated with the northern part of the district and provide a beautiful and modernized living place for the local residents.

Project description

Green, open, sharing and communicating, this is the biggest vision in this design, providing sustainable settlements for families and the elderly. Based on the unified house type, without changing the column network structure, the public space on each floor of the unit is the core, rotating and stacking to form diversified spaces. The flexible plan allows for more green space to be integrated into the living units and provides more living space for the residents. The roofs of the units are connected to each unit by landscape corridors. The elevated corridors make the paths between the units more diversified and interesting, and at the same time provide a richer experience of the landscape and more opportunities for interaction. The internal public space of the units adopts a movable method, which is self-organized according to the needs of the community and residents, forming a diversified, changeable and shared community space in the future.

Technical information

The building is mainly of frame construction, with concrete as the main material. Some of them are decorated with wood and cloth as façade and alloy as frame. The aerial connecting corridor adopts truss structure, and part of the roof landscape pavilion is supported by metal columns. The green roof is mainly planted with herbaceous plants that can support people on the roof, using conventional roof garden practices.
