Urban and architectural concept of a residential and service and development of the area of the Schindler's Ark Survivors' Museu

Project idea

The purpose of developing the buildings in the northern part (Part A) is to preserve and record the history of the site and to form the visitor experience. The goal of the new housing development residential development (in part B) of the project site is to bring available housing to the local market housing and to create a new multi-generational neighborhood community, as well as to bridge the gap between the urban centers of Brnenec and Moravian Chrastova. An important aspect is the arranging the geometric, compositional structure of the developed property. The priority of of the project is to use sustainable materials and to fit into the context of the valley.

Project description

The project includes a new multi-family development in Brnenec, Czech Republic, as well as the use of existing post-industrial buildings for museum and service purposes. The site is divided into 3 parts A, B and C, of which part B has been more thoroughly developed. The urban layout was created with reference to the existing north-south layout, connecting the Low-Beer Villa with the former textile factory. The new residential buildings are essentially based on two contours - rectangular and L-shaped. An ”woonerf” lane is planned through the center of the site, providing access to the buildings.

Technical information

The designed residential and residential-service buildings were designed using the technology of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). CLT production involves laying wooden slats, one on top of the other, perpendicular to each other and joining them using environmentally friendly environmentally friendly adhesives and a pressure of 6 kg/cm2. This makes the resulting structure more resistant to swelling and shrinking. In addition, it regulates air humidity, insulates sound and heat well. Wooden structures are supported by reinforced concrete footings.
