Public Library Atrium

Project idea

(Atrium of the Public Library) designed in a futuristic style as part of the Interior Landscape Design course requirements for the year 2025 A carefully selected color palette was used, combining soft tones such as purples, light blues, greys, and olive green to provide a visually calm and balanced atmosphere. The materials include reflective surfaces, acrylic, synthetic marble, and a combination of natural and artificial plants to fuse futuristic aesthetics with elements of nature.

Project description

PLAN view the design concept is inspired by organic lines and the fluidity of galactic forms, reflecting a sense of modernity and smooth spatial flow. The main goal of the project is to create a relaxing interior environment that allows visitors to disconnect from the outside world and feel as if they’ve been transported into the future through a fully immersive spatial and visual experience.

Technical information

1. Civil and Structural Works 1.1 Paved Walkways and Flooring: • Material: Reinforced concrete base with an epoxy or polyurethane top layer (UV and weather resistant). • Color Scheme: White with metallic gradients (iridescent purples, blues, and silvers). • Thickness: 15 cm concrete base + 5 mm finishing layer. • Slope: 1% for drainage towards hidden collection points. 1.2 Decorative Structures and Elevated Elements: • Materials: • Corrosion-resistant metal frames (e.g. stainless steel or aluminum). • External cladding of fiberglass or polycarbonate (opaque or transparent depending on lighting design). • Installation: Anchored to pre-cast concrete footings using chemical and mechanical anchors. 2. Landscape and Planting Works 2.1 Soil and Planting Beds: • Soil Depth: • 50 cm minimum for trees and large shrubs. • 30 cm for ground covers and seasonal flowers. • Soil Composition: Agricultural soil mixed with peat moss and perlite for improved drainage. • Irrigation System: Automated drip irrigation with a centralized controller. 2.2 Proposed Plant Types (based on the render): • Palm Trees: e.g. Phoenix canariensis or Rhapis palms. • Flowering Trees: e.g. Jacaranda or Tipuana. • Ornamental Shrubs: Bougainvillea, Hibiscus, Lavender. • Ground Covers: Lily Turf, Vinca, Pampas Grass. 3. Water Feature (Central Fountain Element) 3.1 Rainfall-Inspired Vertical Fountain: • Design: Central circular basin with vertical water threads falling from overhead rings or tubes. • Pumps: High-pressure water pumps (~1.5 HP minimum). • Underground Reservoir: Minimum 1.5 cubic meters capacity with a maintenance hatch. • Lighting: Waterproof (IP68) LED rings or spotlights integrated into the structure. 4. Lighting and Smart Systems 4.1 Lighting Plan: • Type: RGB LED fixtures with color control capability. • Placement: • Integrated within columns and sculptural elements. • Recessed ground lights along pathways. • Concealed linear lighting inside the overhead canopy. 4.2 Smart Control: • System: DMX or Wi-Fi lighting control system with programmable scenes. • Sensors: Motion detection and automatic on/off lighting based on ambient light. 5. Furniture and Fixed Elements • Materials: Fiberglass, weather-resistant molded plastic, powder-coated steel. • Anchoring: Secured with stainless steel bolts to concrete bases. • Color Palette: Iridescent purples, deep red, white, and soft blue. 6. Technical Notes and Implementation Guidelines Technical Note Structural elements Should be precisely fabricated using CNC laser cutting and heat forming techniques. Roof/Cover materials UV-resistant polycarbonate panels recommended. Water drainage Hidden drainage network with grated inlets under walkways and softscape zones. Safety requirements All sharp edges should be covered; planting buffers used near circulation zones. Maintenance access All water and lighting systems should be designed for easy, tool-free access.
